STEP 3: BASIC OPERATION 1 - DRILLING SIMPLE HOLES

Set the chuck to the approximate size of drill bit you're planning to use
Insert the bit into the chuck jaws and tighten securely with the
chuck key

Position you workpiece under the bit. Note:
Again, as explained in step #7 previously, it is recommended that
you use your rip fence as a back-up to prevent your workpiece
from spinning during drilling
Position Workpiece
Begin by loosening the quill lock handle on the front
side of the headstock... and the quill feed stop handle on the
back side of the headstock

Loosen Quill Feed Stop
Now, lower your bit until its cutting edges (not the point) are touching the top surface of your workpiece.
Lock you bit into this position by tightening the Quill Lock Handle on the
front side of the headstock
Lower Drill Bit Edges To Workpiece
Tighten Quill Lock
Rotate the Quill Lock Dial to the hole depth you want... and lock this setting by tightening the Quill Feed Stop Handle on the back side of the headstock. This will limit the bit travel to this depth.
Now, release the Quill Lock Handle on the front
side of the headstock
Rotate Dial To Desired Depth
Tighten Quill Feed Stop
Turn on the machine and adjust the appropriate speed recommended for your bit size and type... and the material you're drilling. Click Here for a chart of recommended speeds.
