The Essential Bench Hook

One of the most useful shop jigs is also one of the easiest to make. One end of the "bench hook" grabs the edge of your workbench, while the other provides a backstop, a cradle, or a brace for dozens of woodworking operations. The bench hook is also reversible -- hook it over the front edge of your bench for operations in which you must push and over the back of the bench for those where you must pull.
